This is a horrible event and our thoughts should go out to all the families, students, and faculty at Virginia Tech.
But anyone who tries to tell you why this happened should be ignored. Anyone who tries to spin this situation to score political points for their favorite hobby horse should be shunned. It is contemptible to invent a meaning for what is essentially a meaningless act of violence and hatred.
